Week 48 Summary

Categories: Weekly Summary

Hi guys!

Welcome to my week 48 summary. This has been a spectacular week! I have made a few changes in my week routine to shake things up and hopefully make this long journey a little more productive.

First thing I switched up is my breakfast and lunch meals during the work week.  The company I work for caters breakfast every morning (pretty freaking awesome), but it’s not always the healthiest of choices. So I started packing my breakfast. For lunch, I usual hit a food cart or restaurant with my team mates. Again not always the healthiest choices and again, I started packing my lunch.  Before the switch I was staying within my calories, but felt I should be a little more nutritious conscience.  I will be trying to keep myself to one trip out to lunch each week. I have to get my Friday Buffalo Wild Wings fix, it’s one of my favorites!

Second thing I added this week was at least three workouts at the gym. I am happy to report that I accomplished this goal!  Day one was a little challenging only because the gym I belong to had upgraded all the machines since the last time I was there. It was super busy so I didn’t feel very comfortable lurking around with all the people and looking like a weirdo trying to figure out how everything worked. So I hopped on the elliptical machine and got in some good cardio time and some good sweat. The 2nd day at the gym, I went in super early on a Sunday when hard,y anyone was there and figured out what machine was when and how it worked and got in a good machine workout and then hit the elliptical for some more cardio. The next day, I felt it. I was super sore. The 3rd day, I arrived and started my machine workout and was sell really sore for the previous workout. I also got a killer cramp in one of my hamstrings. Ouch!  I managed to stretch it out and walk it off a bit and got busy on the elliptical for some cardio.

The machine workout I was doing would target different muscles all over my body and then a different group the next workout. This week I’m going to change that up to an upper body workout with light cardio, next day lower body with light cardio and the third day just heavy cardio. I’m hoping that will give my body a little more recovery time between machine workouts. I’m doing it!

Okay let’s see how I did on the goals this week!

Week 48 Goals Check:

  • Stay Hydrated -A- Done!
  • Maintain a 500-calorie per day deficit -A- Yep!
  • 10,000 steps a day -C- I got in three days.
  • Get out of my chair for a spin around the block three time a day -B- Need to do a little better on this one.
  • Meditate four times per week -A- Check!
  • Go to the gym at least three times this week. -A- Killed it!
  • Reflect on my goals every day and keep my vision board updated -A- Check!
  • Keep posting on my blog and Facebook, posting my Fitbit Dashboard everyday -A- There was lots of posting.
  • One hiking/adventure day per week -B- No hikes, but I am going to call the gym an adventure this week.
  • Lose 1 pound per week -D- I lost .3 pounds. Not a full pound tho.

Week 49 Goals:

  • Stay Hydrated
  • Maintain a 500-calorie per day deficit
  • 10,000 steps a day
  • Get out of my chair for a spin around the block three time a day
  • Meditate four times per week
  • Go to the gym at least 3 times this week
  • Reflect on my goals every day and keep my vision board updated
  • Keep posting on my blog and Facebook, posting my Fitbit Dashboard everyday
  • One hiking/adventure day per week
  • Lose 1 pound per week

Okay, so there it is. I feel really good about my accomplishments this week. Getting 10k in a day along with the gym days is going to be a tough one for me, but I’m going to keep striving to reach that goal. I’m very happy with myself for dragging my ass into the gym. This was huge for me. I’m not going crazy, just trying to make getting there a natural habit. Once I accomplish that, I will shake it up some more. I still need to do better about getting out and about on the weekends. I’m going on a little hike Saturday with some friends, that will be a good start. Okay folks, that’s all for now. I appreciate you all checking in and reading about my week. See you guys next week!

Categories: Weekly Summary

Hi Guys, welcome to my week 47 summary. It was such a busy and weird week. I started off really strong and then everything kind of fizzled for me. I guess just too much stuff going on both at work and in my personal life.   My ankle is pretty much healed up, it just swells on me a bit still, but not painful. I was pretty stoked that one of my co-workers grabbed me for a beautiful walk on the water front this week, it was so nice!  You guys know how I have been complaining about the cold rainy weather?  Ya, well be carefully what you wish for. We got a couple 100 degree days and I was not moving out in that heat, blah!  Well let’s check out the breakdown, shall we.

Week 47 Goals Check:

  • Stay Hydrated -A- Check!
  • Maintain a 500-calorie per day deficit -A- Easy
  • 10,000 steps a day when I’m healed up!  -D- I could have done better here, I got in two days, and then was close others, but didn’t hit it.
  • Get out of my chair for a spin around the block three time a day -B-  I didn’t do as much as I could have. I was super busy at work and lost focus a bit.
  • Meditate four times per week -A- Nailed it.
  • Reflect on my goals every day and keep my vision board updated -A- Done
  • Keep posting on my blog and Facebook, posting my Fitbit Dashboard everyday -C- Definately needed some more 10k posts this week.
  • One hiking/adventure day per week -F- No adventures, this week.
  • Lose 1 pound per week -F- No loss, no gain.

Week 48 Goals:

  • Stay Hydrated
  • Maintain a 500-calorie per day deficit
  • 10,000 steps a day
  • Get out of my chair for a spin around the block three time a day
  • Meditate four times per week
  • Go to the gym at least 3 times this week
  • Reflect on my goals every day and keep my vision board updated
  • Keep posting on my blog and Facebook, posting my Fitbit Dashboard everyday
  • One hiking/adventure day per week
  • Lose 1 pound per week

There it is, not a very productive week, but I will change that this week.  I need to figure out a good way to supplement my steps when I’m working from home. When I go into the office, I walk to and from the MAX train stop, which is a big chunk of my steps that I miss when I work from home. Another thing I need to get back in order is the weekends. I get so busy cooking or working on projects at home, the steps get missed. I think I need to start hauling my ass back up to Mount Tabor in the weekends.

Last week I talked about wanting to shake things up a little and do more physical activities. My BFF, Stacy has inspired me. I see posts from her almost daily of her beautiful, red and sweaty face after her lifting and gym workouts. She looks so happy and sounds energized. I’m going to do it Stacy!  I’m going to suck it up and hit the gym at least three times this week.  I,am going to start out on the easy side and just get myself used to going, I think that will be the biggest obstacle for me. I’m not going to go crazy and end up hurting myself. Been there, done that. Slow and steady will win this race!

Okay, so there is the plan. I can do this!  I will do this!  I want to thank all of you for your love and support. I love it when younguys call me out on shit or come and snag me for walking challenges. I couldn’t do this without you guys. Thank you!

Categories: Weekly Summary

Hey guys, welcome back!

I don’t have much to talk about this week since the ankle injury kept me down most of the week.  I wasn’t able to start moving again until last Saturday.  Over the weekend, I managed to rack up 5k steps a day and then on Tuesday, I made it up to 7k, but the ankle was yelling at me afterwards.  Definitely doing much better tho!  Here is the break down…

Week 46 Goals Check:

  • Heal up!  My ankle is still pretty sore, it’s been hard to stay down, but I know if I don’t, it’s just going to take me a lot longer. –A–  I kept off of it and let it heal.  That was a hard thing to do =)
  • Stay Hydrated –A– I drank all the water and then some.
  • Maintain a 500-calorie per day deficit –B– I missed one day… BBQ ribs FTW!
  • 10,000 steps a day when I’m healed up! –F– No 10k days this week, but understandable
  • Do The Step workout at least 3 times this week. –F– I probably should have taken this off last weeks goals.
  • Get out of my chair for a spin around the block three time a day –A– I did try to move some.
  • Meditate four times per week –A– Got in 5 days this week!
  • Reflect on my goals every day and keep my vision board updated –A– Done deal
  • Keep posting on my blog and Facebook, posting my Fitbit Dashboard everyday -C– I did have some posts up there, but not the usual amount.
  • One hiking/adventure day per week –A– I went strawberry picking on Saturday, I think that counts!
  • Lose 1 pound per week –F– I gained .3 pounds this week, I guess that could have been worse.

Week 47 Goals:

  • Stay Hydrated
  • Maintain a 500-calorie per day deficit
  • 10,000 steps a day when I’m healed up!
  • Get out of my chair for a spin around the block three time a day
  • Meditate four times per week
  • Reflect on my goals every day and keep my vision board updated
  • Keep posting on my blog and Facebook, posting my Fitbit Dashboard everyday
  • One hiking/adventure day per week
  • Lose 1 pound per week

Okay, so now that I am on the mend, you will see me out there moving.  I’m glad the sun is out and the weather has warmed up, that is going to help me a lot.  I’m much more active when the weather is good.  I have also been giving a lot of thought to shaking things up a bit.  Walking is good, but I think it is time for me to do more.  I just have to figure out what that is going to be, because if I hate it, you know I’m not going to do it.  So I’m in the midst of figuring out what I can do, like and make it sustainable.  Well thats a wrap for this week.  Thanks for checking in.  You guys rock!

Hi Everyone!

Welcome to my week 41 summary.  It’s been an off week for me.  I have been very busy at work and then very busy at home trying to get some projects done.  My focus was definitely not there this week.  Lets break it down….

Week 41 Goals Check

  • Stay Hydrated *A* I feel weird when I don’t have a bottle of water in my hand now.
  • Maintain a 500-calorie per day deficit *B* I have been tracking my food, but I did have a couple days when I didn’t have -500.
  • 10,000 steps a day *F* Big fail, I have been out and about, but did not hit any 10k days.
  • Do The Step workout at least 3 times this week. *F* No step workouts this week

  • Meditate four times per week *B* I got three days in.
  • Reflect on my goals every day and keep my vision board updated *C* I looked at them, but I wasn’t very focused.

  • One hiking/adventure day per week *F* No adventure days this week!  So sad.

  • Reflect on my goals every day and keep my vision board updated
  • Keep posting on my blog and Facebook, posting my Fitbit Dashboard everyday
  • One hiking/adventure day per week
  • Lose 1 pound per week

That was a pretty half assed week.  I need to FOCUS.  I also need to balance my projects with my goals.  I’m working on a huge crochet project.  Once I sit down and start working on it, I get sucked in and forget everything else.  I think I will practice the finish a row, get up and walk around and then do another, or something like that.  I need to move!  Work has been that way too.  I have the alarm set on my Fitbit, but then when the alarm goes off, I tell myself that what I am doing is more important at the moment.  BAD MARCI!  Okay, knowing is half the battle right?  I am going to make these goals happen and have a very impressive week 42.  Thanks for checking in everyone!  You guys are the best!

Week 40 Summary

Categories: Weekly Summary

Hello everyone and welcome to another issue of my weekly summary.  Today we will be celebrating week 40 and how happy I am that it is over!  This has been one of the most stressful, worrisome, anxiety stricken weeks I have ever had to endure, but thankfully it has ended!

I bet by now you might be asking why, well let me give you the run down.  Hang in there guys, this is going to be a long one.

BEGIN RANT  Last Monday, first thing in the morning, I went in for a mammogram.  My doctor and insurance company had both been nagging me since it had been so long since my last one.  Come to find out later, my last one was in 2006!  I didn’t realize it had been that long, oops!  Anyway, I went in there, got the boob smashing done and over with and the headed up to the Iron Maiden show in Tacoma where I had a fabulous carefree time rocking my ass off.

The next day, Tuesday, I got a call back from the radiologist saying that the saw something on the mammogram that was different from the one in 2006 that they wanted to take a better look at with an ultrasound and asked if I could come in today.  I’m thinking ya, no problem.  I wasn’t too concerned since it’s been ten years since my last one, I’m sure there has probably been a few changes in my body since then.  I was a little surprised that they got me in there the same day, but then I thought, this is the Safeway Foundation Breast Center, it’s all they do and these people are on it, so again, no big deal right?

During the ultrasound, I started getting questions like “do you feel this”, “is this uncomfortable or painful” and I’m like okay, not really, but what’s going on.  The response, “Well, you have a very prominent lymph node.”  When I asked further questions, she showed me the ultrasound and what she was looking at, showing me the comparison of the “prominent” lymph node to the normal sized ones.  It was about three times larger than the rest.  Well crap!  When I asked what that meant, she said that they would need to do a biopsy to check for Lymphoma and Leukemia.  That sentence just rolled right off her tongue, no big deal.  Okay, starting to get a little freaked out, but I can handle this.

I get dressed and then get taken into a another room, to meet with one of the nurses that coordinates all the procedures.  Sheexplained to me what was going to happen, what I needed to do afterwards and what they were testing for and how long that would take.  Honestly, I think the only words I heard was when and where.

Mike was waiting for me in the lobby the entire time and had no idea at this point of what went down in during the ultrasound.  I walked out to the lobby, and I made it about halfway down the hall when I completely lost my shit.  It was like I all of a sudden, I comprehended everything the radiologist and the nurse just told me and it was game over.  We made it to the car and I finally got myself back in order and home we went.  Once that little break down was over, I was doing pretty well with things.  I was a little stressed out about the procedure and what that would feel like, but other than that, I was doing okay.

So, Thursday morning comes, I’m still feeling pretty good (I thought).  I get all checked in, took a seat in the lobby, waiting to be called in and then all of a sudden I feel it coming.  My hands start shaking a little and my ears start ringing, but it’s not bad yet, I can handle it.  They call my name and head back to get dressed down and ready for the procedure where I just totally lost my shit.  Full on anxiety attack, crying and the works.

I think I scared the crap out of some poor old lady sitting back there waiting for mammogram.   So I went back into the dressing room, away from everyone and tried to focus on my breathing and anything else to calm myself down.  I did finally get it under better control, just in time to hear my name called for the procedure and the tears hit again.  The nurse was kind enough to go get Mike for me right away and he went in the procedure room with me.  I felt much better with him there with me.

Mike stayed with me through the entire procedure, thank goodness!  It wasn’t to bad, it was a little painful and felt a little weird.  The doctor took three tissue samples from the perpetrating lymph node and then injected a metal marker into it so they could track it easily in the future.  After that, the got me all bandaged up and I got to have a repeat mammogram so they could get an updated picture of it with the marker.  Yay, more boob smashing for the win!  Afterwards, they let me know that I would get the results of the biopsy back in two to five business days and after that, I got to get dressed and get the hell out of there.  Phew, its over right?  NOPE!

So I wake up last Friday and noticed that they area where the biopsy was done was hurting much worse than it was the day of.  I thought, well maybe it just took a while for the soreness to set in.  Haha, so funny Marci, if only you were so lucky.  The clear, saran wrap type bandage adhesive they used to to cover the stitch tape gave me an allergic reaction.  At first, I thought it was just making my skin swell and itch and I started taking of the bandage, but as I started taking it off (my skin along with it) I realized they were water blisters.  WTF?  Water blisters from a bandage.  Ugh, they hurt worse than the biopsy and of course they were right wear my bra would rub.  So ya, not going back to work today!  So I worked from home Friday.  FML

So my original thought was that if I made it through the procedure, then I would be okay, the worst of it would be over.  Oh, I’m such a silly girl.  The biopsy was cake.  Waiting to find out if you have a life threatening disease, not so easy.

Okay so held it together pretty well Friday, the blisters were pretty painful and just in a really bad spot, my arm rubbed, my clothes rubbed, I was trying to give the area air so they would dry out… just not an ideal situation.  I was feeling a little stressed out, but who wouldn’t be.

The weekend comes, and I’m trying to do anything to keep my mind busy and off the topic.  I went to Mike’s eye exam appointment with him.   I could tell was stressed out too. We finished that up and kept looking for things to do to stay busy.  Saturday night, I went to Bottle and Bottega to drink wine and paint with Coni and Stacy, that was a tons of fun and kept me going.

Sunday, we got up early and headed  to Woodburn to check out the Tulip farm.  All the walking and picture taking of the pretty tulips kept me busy and wore me out and kept my mind off of things for a while.  Then I get home and my brain kicks into overdrive.  I start thinking about the logistics of what is going to happen if this is cancer.  What will happen with work, what will happen if I have to have surgery, hospital stays, after care, chemo therapy, radiation and on and on and on.  I actually started making a spreadsheet of things that we would have to figure out if this turned out to be cancer.  I finally asked myself what the hell I thought I was doing and reigned it back in.  Okay so a minor little brain glitch there, but I got things back under control.

Monday morning, I got up, showered, got dressed for work, put on the makeup, did the hair and then out of the blue full on ear ringing, sobbing anxiety attack, just like that.  What the fuck?  I think the idea of knowing that I could get the results that day had me both excited for good news and terrified that it might be bad news and my mind just went into this endless loop of panic.  Mike helped me get calmed down and it didn’t last too long, but needless to say, I didn’t make it in the office.  Monday was the toughest day of them all.  I got some work done.  At lunch time, Mike and I went for a walk at Laurelhurst Park to get some exercise and fresh air.  Afterwards, we picked up some Nic’s Famous Coney Dogs togo on the way home.   That helped a lot.  Got my mind off of it while I enjoyed some of my favorite things.

Finally, Monday afternoon, I get the phone call, IT’S NOT CANCER!  I have never felt so relieved in my entire life.  Holy shit!  Mike and hugged it out forever and started to breath again.  They told me that they would forward the results to my regular doctor, so that she could follow up to see what might be causing that crazy lymph node to get so big, but other than that, I just had to come back for another mammogram in a year so they could keep an eye on that bad boy.  PHEW!  Bullet dodged!  RANT OVER

Okay, so there is my crazy, stressed out fucked up week.  I don’t want to have to go through that ever again.  Needless to say, my focus really wasn’t on the goals this week.  I did continue to log my food, there was a lot of stress eating and comfort food in there.  I did drink tons of water and got some good walks in, but thats about it.  Surprisingly, I lost .2 pounds, okay cool.

This week is going to be fucking awesome guys!  I have to say, I feel a little bit more appreciative about what I have and who I have in my life.  My husband is an amazing man, I couldn’t have gotten through this without his love and strength.  Even though he was completely stressed out too, he held it together the entire time and kept me going.  Next up my children, I have a couple of really good and strong kids.  They really held it together and kept things positive and flowing.  Then their are my BEST FRIENDS FOR LIFE/AFTER LIFE, Coni and Stacy.  What would I do without you guys?!?!?!?!  Thanks for letting me vent and have my little freak outs.  I love you guys!  And then there is the awesome group of people I work with and pal around with, you know who you are… TOM, BRYCE, AARON, KELVIN AND BEN.  I’m so glad you guys are there for me, you guys fucking rock!

Okay, down to business, here are the goals for this week!

It feels so good to be out and about again and getting shit done.  I have mixed feelings about this week because I feel like I was out doing a lot, but I fell short on some of my goals.  I am definitely headed the right direction tho, so I can feel good about that.  Here is the low down…

Okay, I’m back in the game, just need to keep my drive up.  I posted a picture of my reflection board updates above under my goals check.  I found recording my achievements everyday has been very helpful to keep a good mindset and keep moving forward.  So I will keep that up.  This week, I will do my best to throw in those step workouts, that will burn those calories up.  I was very happy to see that I lost weight this week!  I didn’t lose a entire pound, but more importantly, I didn’t gain, I lost, AWESOME!  Well that is my speel for the week, thanks for checking in and reading about my week 39 summary.  Tune in next week for some more Marci action =)
